Hypnotherapy for Smoking cessation is for you if you want to stop smoking or quit smoking. Don't say you want to give up smoking because that implies a loss. If you stop smoking you are actually gaining, not losing something. However, be advised that if you have been told you have to give up and agree grudgingly, or don’t fully embrace the desire to quit, hypnotherapy is unlikely to be effective.
You have to recognise that you are addicted to a drug -
Hypnotherapy and NLP as practised here will help you combat the desire to continue smoking and help you through those brief periods of ‘wanting one’.
There is no point in reiterating the dangers and social downside or cost to smokers. You already know all that, you know you want to stop smoking, yet you still smoke.
I recognise that you had valid reasons to start smoking in the first place and that you almost certainly had to work hard at it to become a smoker. I also recognise that nicotine is one of the fastest acting drugs known to man, both in terms of entering the smoker’s system and leaving it, leading to early withdrawal symptoms and the desire to smoke another cigarette.
Like it or not, smoking is an addiction to nicotine, not just a habit. The good news is that it can be a relatively easy addiction to beat. It is the psychological dependence that really needs attention.
Even the words “Giving up” have the emotional meaning of losing something you would rather keep. So to say you want to give up smoking often creates a conflict; your conscious mind wants to stop but your unconscious mind tells you that you don’t.
Hypnotherapy used in conjunction with NLP starts with the proposition that you are not giving up anything, you are gaining something more valuable. The hypnotherapist targets your unconscious mind with the objective of replacing the obsolete thinking that started you smoking in the first place with healthier, more beneficial thinking.
An article in New Scientist on 31 October 1992 reporting on a scientific study on people who had successfully stopped smoking said
"Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. Willpower, it turns out, counts for very little ......."
In a study of over 600 separate surveys involving over 72,000 people who had successfully stopped smoking
