What To Expect In A Hypnotherapy Session

Most people wonder what to expect when they attend a hypnotherapy session. Typical questions include “Is there a special feeling of being hypnotised?” “What does hypnotherapy feel like?” “What does it feel like to be hypnotised?” “What can I expect in a hypnotherapy session”.

Well, the most important thing you can expect to feel is comfortable and relaxed. You should feel at ease with your therapist, which is why I always have a chat with potential clients before I make an appointment. During this I find out about the issues and circumstances of the potential client and we agree whether the therapy I can offer is suitable.

You can rest assured that I will only agree to go ahead with it if I am convinced that you will benefit rapidly and effectively from it and that I will aim to use as few sessions as possible to obtain a good outcome.

Only when the potential client is agreeable do we go on to make an appointment.

At the start of the session you will be seated in a comfortable recliner chair and we will chat a bit to make sure that you are comfortable and that we can work together. It is important that you are comfortable with and have trust in your therapist for the work to be really effective. Then we will discuss your issues and the background in more detail and I will make notes to guide me and to decide which therapeutic tools to use. These I will discuss with you to make sure that you are happy to proceed and you will complete some forms. All information given by you will be kept strictly confidential.

Thereafter, particularly in the case of hypnotherapy, you will be guided by my voice into a hypnotic state we call trance. It is in this state that a Hypnotherapist is able to talk to your unconscious mind to bring about beneficial change. During this trance state, a variety of therapeutic tools, e.g. NLP or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy techniques may be used. See Techniques for more information about what they are and their uses.

Throughout the session you remain in control, you will hear everything that ios said to you, you cannot be made to do anything against your will, you are free to scratch an itch or adjust your position to get more comfortable and you can come out of it at any time you need to to attend to something.

At the end of the session, you will be guided back to full alertness. Most people thoroughly enjoy the process and don’t want to be brought back to full alertness and I frequently get comments like “That was great” or “I feel so relaxed”. I always allow clients to take time to reorient themselves before they get up.

If you have any more questions or would like a 30 minute taster session for a reduced fee, why not contact me for a chat?
