The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council www.ghsc.co.uk has been established in order to offer a facility through which the diverse field of Hypnotherapy may collectively  work towards the status of the profession. The Council's main areas of responsibility are in setting criteria for the validation of training courses and for overseeing the criteria for the ongoing registration of individual practitioners within the General Hypnotherapy Register (The GHR). Practitioners who pass an accredited course of training are entitled to use the post nominals GQHP.

The General Hypnotherapy Register is the registering agency for the GHSC and has been established following Department of Health guidelines that each separate Complementary & Alternative Medical Profession should have a single, central Register of Practitioners. This register can be viewed at www.general-hypnotherapy-register.com

The UK Confederation of Hypnotherapy Organisations (UKCHO) National Public Register can be viewed on the UKCHO website: www.ukcho.co.uk. This demonstrates that UKCHO Registered practitioners have been trained to agreed standards and are governed by Codes of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures designed specifically to protect the public. The purpose of this formal regulation is the protection of the public from unskilled or unethical practitioners. The Public Register is NOT there to advertise individual practitioners and does not give their contact details, it is to allow members of the public to check whether or not a therapist is registered.

The National Association of Advanced Hypnotherapists is a sister organisation and part of the UKCHO. It has the objective of maintaining standards and supporting further training. Its Web site can be viewed at www.nrah.co.uk
